When you actually compare this Zippo hand warmer with it’s competitors it actually gives off as much as 10 times more heat in certain comparisons. With the Zippo you have plenty of joules at your disposal. Add the clean lines and sleek design to the equation and this surely has to be very near the top of the tree when it comes to reusable hand warmers.
What is significant and pleasing about this hand warmer is that it produces all of it’s heat without a burning flame. This means that whether you have it in your pocket or down inside your glove, you can rest easy about any danger from fire and burning. You must though keep the Zippo hand warmer in it’s warming bag. The reason for this is to protect your skin as the Zippo can get very hot. Perhaps too hot for your skin to handle.

Zippo Hand Warmer Advice
When you buy a Zippo hand warmer online it is shipped without fuel. Before using the unit you need to add lighter fuel. The Zippo hand warmer has been designed to use Zippo lighter fuel and it is recommended that you use this as your fuel source. However the hand warmer will work with other lighter fuels.
To add lighter fuel to your hand warmer you need to first remove the hand warmer lid. Next remove the part that is holding the catalytic burner element. Once this has been done pour your lighter fuel in to the plastic filling cup ensuring that you do not spill any. For 6 hours of use you need to fill to the lower line. If you want the full 12 hours use then fill to the upper line. Do not overfill by going beyond the upper line. The next step is to then pour the fluid in to the catalytic burner opening. If you overfill it could cause a malfunction or even fire and burns. So be precise on this step. Wipe away any excess fuel and allow evaporation from the surfaces before using.. Replace the part holding the catalytic burner element and then you are ready to ignite. Always ensure that there is no spilled fuel anywhere near the hand warmer or on your hands before igniting.
To ignite the Zippo hand warmer, remove the lid and hold the base unit in one hand. With your other hand apply a flame to the catalytic burner for about 5 seconds. When ignition has been confirmed, replace the lid and put the hand warmer inside the warming bag it is supplied with. After ignition the heat that is provided is the result of a catalytic process without a flame. One point here to remember though is that after ignition there is no way to stop the heating action. You need to wait until the fuel has been exhausted. So if you have no more need for the Zippo hand warmer and it is still heating always place it on a fireproof surface until the fuel has finished.
In case of emergencies and you do need to stop the heating process of your Zippo hand warmer you need pry off the burner element. You can do this using a pair of pliers, a knife or the edge of the lid. This burner element will be extremely hot so do not touch it with bare skin or place it on a flammable surface. Once you have pried off the burner element it and the catalytic unit will extinguish in about 30 seconds. Once cooled you can replace them back inside the Zippo hand warmer.
